Miao Zhang – Intern 

Miao (pronounced like “meow”) is a rising junior at Rice University majoring in Visual and Dramatic Arts and Mathematical Economic Analysis. She is an international student from Beijing, China who loves photography and event-planning. She chaired the 2017 Homecoming Committee and is currently serving as the co-chair of the concerts committee of Rice Program Council. This summer, she joined Mi Familia Vota as an intern. She is very passionate about the youth leadership program and is super excited to meet you all!



Valeria Sawers – Intern

Valeria is a rising sophomore majoring in Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity and minoring in Earth Systems at Stanford University.

Valeria was born in Honduras and moved with her family to Houston at the age of 5. She is a first generation college student.

During her career at Stanford, she has been an active member of the Black Student Union and Students for the Liberation of All People. Her activism focuses on centering marginalized communities to ensure that they have a voice. She hopes to go pursue a career in academia, and center her work around Latin America. This is her first year with Mi Familia Vota, and she is very excited to be working on the YELS program.
