Emerging Latino Leaders can be attributed to our co-founders, Daniel Cortez and Mario Salinas who first launched the program in 2015. Daniel, then a Rice student, submitted his idea of hosting Youth Summit for Latino students to the Center for Civic Leadership at Rice University. He sought out a community partner, and Mario Salinas, a Mi Familia Vota employee with a passion of empowering Houston’s future, was the perfect match!

They created a vision where the program would create an environment where Latinos and other minorities understand why their voice matters so much.

Our program is dedicated to guiding Fellows down a path where they discover their leadership attributes and are given opportunities to take charge.
