Emerging Latino Leaders (former name) can be attributed to co-founders, Daniel Cortez and Mario Salinas who first launched the program in 2015. Daniel, then a Rice student, submitted his idea of hosting Youth Summit for Latino students to the Center for Civic Leadership at Rice University. He sought out a community partner, and Mario Salinas, a Mi Familia Vota employee with a passion of empowering Houston’s future, was the perfect match!

Thanks to Mario and Daniel’s vision of creating a program where underrepresented youth are empowered to create change, the ELL Fellowship has now been expanded to the Young Emerging Leaders & Scholars Fellowship, a program that seeks to engage young Latinos, Asian-Americans, and other minorities.

Mi Familia Vota and the OCA-GH are purposeful in making sure that our communities progress by building youth power. Our program is dedicated to guiding Fellows down a path where they discover their leadership attributes and are given opportunities to take charge.
