On Saturday, December 9th, forty Houston high school students braved the chilly weather and joined us for a jammed packed day of learning about community issues, meeting Senator Sylvia Garcia, and inspiring each other to become stronger youth leaders.
In the morning, we heard from ELL co-founder, Mario Salinas, on how minority youth can have a drastic impact in community issues through civic engagement. In our Community Advocates panels, Dona Murphy, activists for immigrant health, Cinthi Cantu, Dreamer and environmental justice advocate, and Melanie Pang, Social Worker and co-chair of Mayor Turner’s LGBTQ+ Council.
